National Girls and Women in Sports Day

Sports are special, they are life changing. Sports transcend time. The achievements of a player, or team, live on long after the game is played.

Sports are a connection between generations. They are a bridge that allows a daughter and father to share something they otherwise may never have. Sports bring together entire cities and countries under a singular purpose. They allow for people with nothing in common outside of sports to share an equal feeling.

To me, sports are a way of life, but it wasn’t until I was done with my collegiate career that I realized how amazing it is to be a female athlete. When sports is all you’ve ever known, being around like-minded and strong female athletes is something you don’t think twice about, but let me tell you… it’s awesome.

From lifting heavy to sprinting fast, reaching a new box jump max to crushing the workout that once was nearly impossible. Female athletes are special. The stories that you have from practices and games always seem to be the topic of conversation when you and your teammates are together, and it’s that bond, that connection that you will cherish your entire life. So to those female athletes who are struggling right now, keep fighting. Take it day by day, and know that it will all be worth it in the end. I promise you.

To all the girls out there who have big dreams as an athlete:

•Appreciate your strong body
•Continue to prove people wrong
•Surround yourself with people who believe in you
•Compete in ALL that you do
•Approach every practice, game, and workout as if it’s your last
•Don’t believe anyone who tells you, “You Can’t”
•Work hard
•Have fun

To all of the females who have paved the way to get female sports to where they are today, Thank You. It is because of your hard work and dedication that female sports are currently stronger than ever.

To Sports, Thank You. You have molded me into the woman that I am today. I am grateful that I was able to compete at such a high level, and it is because of you that I have my nearest and dearest friends. I am forever indebted to you.

There isn’t a better time to be a female in sports then now.
