“If you could go back in time and tell your younger self something what would it be?”

Silence…

“Nothing.” she said.

“What do you mean?” I said.

“That’s the first thing that came to my mind. If I could go back and tell myself something, then the last few years would have been different. I wouldn’t have gone through what I went through and I wouldn’t have learned what I know now.  I would want myself to go through the painful process of learning everything the hard way because I have learned so much. It’s all a part of the process.”

Her answer was not what I was expecting to hear, but at the same time, it didn’t surprise me.

The ability to trust that the process isn’t always pretty but sure is worth it, is something that the majority of people are never able to do, much less at 13 years of age.

Trusting the process of becoming great is a choice. Some days, months, and even years are hard, like really hard. But they are all preparing you for what’s ahead. Preparing you for situations, jobs, relationships, trips, and hardships that are to come. It isn’t a straight line that steadily increases from day to day. Rather, it’s a bunch of scribbles on a page that SLOWLY makes its way up the page. It doesn’t happen overnight, and you will have many obstacles along the way, but that is where you get to make a choice. When the going gets tough you can either stick to the process of doing all that you can to become better, or you can quit, you can slack off, you can stop caring. It’s up to you.

In order to fully trust the process you must:
Embrace the unknown
Be comfortable being uncomfortable
Turn obstacles into opportunities
Be accountable
Breathe (a lot of breathing)
Be aware and Be present
Believe in yourself

You must trust that what has happened to you, and what you are currently going through, is preparing you for something that you can’t even begin to imagine. It should inspire you to know that You Are Enough and you are right where you need to be.

Accept where you’re at and work hard in all that you do, while also listening to your heart and your body.
